A recent act of self-sacrifice, for Charity.

Mick Frost a local character has been growing his beard for 10 years – since he retired.

He has, for the same period of time, been running around the area collecting money for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) charity.

It ought to be remembered that the Air Ambulances around the country save hundreds of lives. They can get a doctor or an anaesthetist to a casualty in minutes and back to a hospital nearly as quickly.

We know that ambulances cannot travel as fast and that’s particularly important in this, a rural, area. Indeed; air ambulances can be of a great service in cities as well.

The air ambulance can get the patient to the hospital within that ‘golden hour’

All air ambulances operate in many different ways and often rely on public funding through donations, the DLRAA receives no government funding so this is vital– also, to bring in line with organisations such as the RNLI, a petition was developed and sent to parliament to have air ambulances’ exempt from the VAT on fuel (further information can be found at: https://petition.parliament.uk/archived/petitions/29349)

Mick is one of the stalwarts that have been helping to raise funds for such a worthy cause.

So what did he do ?

He allowed his 10-year-old beard to be shaved off in aid of the Air Ambulances.

Spot the difference !

The sacrifice recently took place at Snippers, just off George street in Lutterworth, sponsorship can still be added on his just giving page :-

Go-on thank Mick for his sacrifice and support a fantastic charity –

Mick’s words :-

Is the contact between the charity and the public. The way they behave is the perceived reflexion of the charity.

However: in the case of the Air Ambulance, deeds speak louder than any words.

It is my privilege to volunteer for Derbyshire Leicestershire Rutland Air Ambulance ( D.L.R.A.A.)

The wonderful service they perform every day for absolutely anybody and everybody is something for which I am proud to be associated.

My work involves contact with the general public & businesses. All of which seem to know the importance of the service that is provided. We also  meet the individuals who think of different ways of trying to make money to help keep the service going.

To these people I especially take my hat off. It is on that theme I am able to say (at long last) I am joining these good people. My mission is to have my full beard shaved off. I admit not very strenuous, but I have nurtured it for 10 years and I will definitely notice the difference.

At this point if you would like to help this good cause, you may do so by going online to www.justgiving.com/fundraising/michael-frost7.

You may not be aware that the Air Ambulance is funded only by Public Donation.

I will end by saying to be a VOLUNTEER for either a charity or in the community is a wonderful feeling.
