Don’t let them raise your council tax bill

Yesterday it was announced that councils will be able to raise council tax by up to 6% before a referendum has to be called. Previously the maximum rise permitted was 5%.

  • At a time when wage growth is stagnating and the cost of living is on the rise, how can politicians justify new powers to take even more of people’s money?
  • Council tax has already nearly doubled in the last decade so it isn’t fair to ask residents to plug the gaps in their finances, especially when we know that council tax already hits the poorest hardest.
  • Councils need to get their spending under control before asking families in Britain to pay more tax.

The TaxPayers’ Alliance will be campaigning tirelessly to ensure that councils do not increase council tax by the maximum amount and I urge you to do the same by emailing or telephoning your local council.
